Keeping Focused
David Cawston
Luke 9:51-53
Introduction:
Jesus was a very focused person.
He reiterated his focus many times throughout Scripture.
John 4:34
34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. (KJV)
John 5:30
"...I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me."(KJV)
John 6:38
38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.(KJV)
Scripture text: He was focused to go up to Jerusalem to complete the plan the God had laid for His life.
Everything that he had done had been directed towards the fulfillment of the plan of the Father.
From the time that he was a boy of twelve years old in the temple.
Luke 2:47-49
47 And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.
48 So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, "Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously."
49 And He said to them, "Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?"
(NKJ)
From His early beginnings He had his focus set to the fulfillment of the Fathers plan which would be completed in Jerusalem
If we are ever going to do what God wants in our life we are going to have to be focused.
God stated that He had a plan for your life in Jeremiah 29:11
11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.(NIV)
Paul expressed that we are responsible to "...prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."(NKJ) Rom 12:2
We cannot prove it unless we are focused!
It just doesn't happen!
We'll never really succeed in our spiritual lives.
Our Marriage
Our Church
Our businesses
unless we are focused!
