THANK GOD FOR EVERYTHING

1 Thessalonians 5:18

"In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus
concerning you." This might be easier for us to swallow if Paul had said,
"Give thanks in some things." He didn't, so we have to struggle with the
content of the text.

There was a man who sat under an apple tree and an apple fell on his head.
He said, "Thank God it wasn't a pumpkin!" If we look around there is always
something for which we can give thanks.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays of the year. It gives me a
chance to reflect on people who have made a difference in my life. It gives
me a chance to count my blessings.

I want to reflect on some things for which I am thankful in this sermon.

1. THANK GOD FOR PEOPLE.

In 1 Corinthinas 4:4-5 Paul lets us know that God will one day judge us
all. We cannot know another's motives for doing certain things all the
time. Therefore, we need to allow God to do the judging.

1.I am thankful for my family.

A man and his wife were having marital problems. He finally convinced
her to go to the counselor. She talked for the firtst thirty minutes they
were there. The counselor stood up and planted a long kiss on her and said,
"She needs this three times a week." The husband said, "Okay, I will bring
her back Monday, Wednesday, and Friday!" Needless to say they had some
problems.

I am thankful for my wife. We married when we were eighteen. She worked
so I could complete college and seminary. I work so she could complete her
college. She worked to help me assist our children in getting their
education. She has truly been my helpmate through life and ministry. She
is a gift from God.

I am thankful for my two children. I tell people that what gray hair I
have is the result of children and Baptists! However, my children grew up
in a glass house and they are still involved in church and ministr ...
