Deuteronomy 10:12-14, 17

If you have your Bible this morning, turn to Deuteronomy 10:12. This is the last in a series of messages on "Living By Faith In A Culture Of Fear". Today the message is entitled "Do You Fear God?" Would you call yourself a God fearing person? Moses spoke to the children of Israel here in Deuteronomy 10 about how to live.

Deuteronomy 10:12-14, 17 "And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the LORD's commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good? To the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it. For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes."

Fear comes in all kinds of forms. I like the story about the pastor who liked to visit a certain widow in his church because she had a wonderful vegetable garden. He always tried to go around lunchtime because she liked to cook delicious fresh vegetables for her pastor. So he went by one day and he knocked on her door but there was no answer. He called out Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones. He didn't hear an answer so he walked around back to the garden and he called out Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones and he heard no answer. He decided well I guess she doesn't hear me. So he left a card on her door and he wrote on the back of the card read Revelation 3:20. Revelation 3:20 says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will eat with him, and he with me." Now he thought that was pretty funny! Well, Sunday came and she left a note on his desk and said, dear pastor. But what he didn't realize is that when he showed up ...
