How to Have a Happy Thanksgiving
Stan Coffey
Psalm 100:1-5
This morning I am reading from Psalm 100 and also from the first chapter in the book of Romans. I want to speak today on the subject of "How To Have A Happy Thanksgiving." I sincerely hope that this Thanksgiving will be in your life, the happiest that you have ever known no matter what the circumstances in your life may be at this time. I pray that this will be the most glorious and God blessed Thanksgiving that you have ever had.
A wise man once said that when gratitude dies on the altar of a man's heart, he is well nigh gone. I think that is one of the most tremendous statements I have ever heard. When gratitude dies on the altar of man's heart, he is well nigh gone. And it is an indictment of the human race that man by nature is not thankful. In the book of Romans 1:21, "...when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations..." And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind.
The Bible says that when man knew God, that he glorified Him not as God neither was he thankful. And every time a person expresses sin and rebellion toward God he is expressing ingratitude toward God and he is revealing the basic nature of the human heart, which is unthankfulness and ingratitude toward our heavenly Father. Man is not basically thankful by nature. Anything that you have to be taught to do is not really a part of your nature.
For instance, you don't have to teach a duck to swim. A duck is born knowing how to swim. But if you throw an infant into the water, that infant will drown because swimming is not a part of the nature of a human infant. And infant can be taught to swim but he doesn't know how to swim by nature.
And we have to teach our children to be thankful because being thankful and being grateful is not a part of their nature. It seems like a little baby is b ...
