Ephesians 4:21-24
Let me share with you that this morning we are talking about change, about positive changes in your life. It is a continuation of last week's message and it is also the seventh in a series called "Breaking The Lies That Bind." Jesus said "you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free." In other words there is a power in the truth that breaks the bonds of doubt and fear and hesitation and procrastination. We know we need a change but we put of that change. You know the syndrome, tomorrow, tomorrow I will start saving money, tomorrow I will go on a diet, tomorrow I will clean that closet. It is always tomorrow. And in our lives it is tomorrow. That bondage needs to be broken.
But one of the lies Satan tells that we have begun to deal with and our culture puts upon is you ought to be able to change your negatives in to positives overnight in your life. We have instant everything. We sit and change the channels, go from one to another instantly, quickly. And today in our society we have all kinds of promise that you can change your attitude, you can change your life, and you can change your habits overnight. Just attend this seminar and overnight you can become a financial genius. Just follow this horoscope or call psychic hotline and overnight your whole picture will change, your whole life will change. Or just listen to these tapes and you will have a positive attitude overnight. All your problems will be gone. That is the kind of culture in which we live.
So the devil comes and discourages us by saying you ought to change overnight. And if you can't change that bad habit or if you can't change that bad attitude or that personality disorder or that low self-esteem overnight then something is wrong with you and you might as well give up.
