A Gift for the Guilty
Robert Walker
Ephesians 2:8
H.A. Ironside, the great Bible teacher was traveling on a train one time and a lady fortune teller came to him and
said, "If you will cross my palm with silver, I'll tell you what you are going to be doing tomorrow."
Ironside opened up his New Testament to Ephesians 2 and took her by the arm and said, "Mam, I'm not sure you can tell me what I'm going to do tomorrow, but let me show you in this book what I was and what I did yesterday."
So, he read the first three verses of chapter 2. She said, "I've had quite enough."
He said, "oh, but mam, let me also tell you what my present is according to this book." Then he read Ephesians 2:4-6. She said, "I have had very much enough." He continued to hold her by the arm and said, "Mam, let me show you in this passage of Scripture from this book what I'm going to be doing tomorrow in the ages to come, he'll show the riches of his grace.
" She got herself away from him and as she hurried up the aisle she was heard to say, "I took the wrong man, I took the wrong man."
Fortune tellers can't tell you what you are going to be doing tomorrow but the Bible tells us what we were in guilt, what we are in grace and what we shall be one of these days in glory. This tells the whole story of salvation.
Grace by definition is God’s kindness toward us in Jesus Christ. Grace is God’s miracle of love made know to us. Grace is God doing for us what we’re not able to do for ourselves. By grace God has chosen us. By grace He has predestined us. By grace He has accepted us. By grace he has adopted us. By grace He has delivered us. By grace He had protected us.
There was a time when we were dead in trespasses and that was our life prior to salvation. There was a time when we walk according the Prince and power of the air. There was time when we were without hope and we were helpless. There was a time when we were without God.
God by His grace has bestowed upon us many ...
