Occasionally you will hear someone say about another, "He or she lost her religion." Maybe you have said, "I came close to losing my religion." I may surprise you by what I am about to say, but the best thing that could ever happen to you is for you to lose your religion. Especially, if you think that your religion will get you to heaven. The simple truth of the matter is that no religion will get you to heaven. Nobody has ever got to heaven because they were religious. Furthermore, there is no one that will ever get to heaven because they are religious.

According to the World Christian Encyclopedia there are 19 major world religions which are subdivided into a total of 270 large religious groups. There are 31,000 separate Christian groups that have been identified in the world. However, not one of these thousands of religious groups has ever been responsible for a single person getting to heaven.

A Sunday school teacher asked the children in his class, "If I sold my house and my car, had a big garage sale and gave all my money to the Church, would I get into heaven?" "No!" all the children shouted. The teacher then asked, "If I cleaned the Church every day, mowed the yard and kept everything neat and tidy, would I get into heaven?" Again, all the children shouted "No!" The teacher asked, "How then can I get into heaven? One little boy in the back of the room shouted out, "You got to be dead!"
