Why Doesn't God Stop the War?
Jesse M. Hendley
Ezekiel 14:13-23
This message was born out of a question put to me in radio mail from many listeners. It comes from an interest in the great prophecies of the Bible. The Bible dares to predict the future. Herein it differs from the religious books of other religious groups. No other religious book dares to predict the future. Prophecy is not attempted because man cannot read the future. The Bible prophecies are detailed. It sketches the outline of History in the Book of Daniel predicting four great world-empires, which history fulfilled in Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome. It predicts that the fifth great kingdom will be the kingdom of God on earth, established by Christ at His second coming. It predicted that Egypt would become a "base" or second rate nation, when she was a world power. It speaks of Tyre and Sidon, the destruction of mighty Nineveh, the complete oblivion into which mighty Babylon should be cast. The world-wide dispersion of the Jews was a repeated declaration and the preservation of the racial identity of the Jews and her return to the Land of Palestine was freely forecast. The greatest of the prophecies related to the first coming of Christ, the Messiah. The date of his coming, the very birthplace, His humble origin, His deity and miracle-working power: His ignominious death and crucifixion were marvelously and accurately foretold. He came and fulfilled the Scriptures which dealt with his first coming. Shall He not also fulfill the prophecies of His second coming just as literally?
Now the Bible tells us why we have wars, and people today are turning to the great prophecies of God's Word for an answer to this great world war to answer the question:
FIRST, I want to say God can stop this war any time He pleases. In Psalm 46:9 we read, "He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth."
SECOND, He will not make the war to cease until it fulfills His purpose. War ...
