INTRODUCTION:
What I want to speak to you about this morning is faith. I want to speak to you about exceptional faith, the kind of faith not found in the life of the average Christian.
And when I say, "average Christian," I am not intending to insult anyone; however, the simple truth of the matter is that most people do not live by faith.
The kind of faith of which I speak is the kind of faith that trusts God for the impossible and witnesses its fulfillment. It is the kind of faith that believes in the unseen as though it had already happened. It is the kind of faith that prays for miracles and witnesses things others only read about. Listen, friend, we still serve a miracle-working God. Matt 21:22, "And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive."
Let me say at the outset, if you happen to be the average Christian, you do not have to remain the same. You can leave here today a changed person. You can leave here today challenged by the Word of God to exercise an exceptional faith. You can determine that you will no longer be average.
Let me challenge you to put God to the test and see if He will not do the impossible for you. And let me add; there is nothing wrong with putting God to the test--He encourages us to do that. That's what faith is. God makes a promise to us, we take Him at His Word--believing Him...by faith we implement His promise and our faith is rewarded.
Let me give you just one small example. In Mal. 3:10, God was speaking to Israel about tithing. He told them that if they would just be faithful with their tithe--if they would trust Him, He would demonstrate that faith works. Here's what He said: "Prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."
