We are talking today about Mary and how Mary was used of the Lord in such a wonderful and marvelous way. And I want you to notice in this story of Mary that the angel Gabriel was sent to Mary and announced to Mary that she would be the mother, the vehicle, the conduit through which Jesus Christ would be born. And Mary had a tremendous reaction to that fact
Mary was not chosen because she was of noble birth. Mary was just an ordinary, Jewish young lady. She was not chosen because she was highly educated; she was only a peasant girl. Mary was not chosen because she was of unusual beauty, were not told that she was a particularly beautiful girl or a particularly glamorous girl. I believe that Mary was chosen because Mary was a godly woman, because Mary was a godly girl. I believe there are some characteristics about Mary that we can see in the word of God that Mary was amazed that God had chosen her, that Mary was absolutely overwhelmed that God had chosen her, that Mary was very, very humble in the presence of this angel, that when the angel came to her and announced to her that she would be the one who would bare the Messiah, the one who was the hope of Israel, the one that they had looked for all of these centuries of time, that Mary was amazed and surprised.
I. MARY DEVELOPED A SENSE OF GOD'S PRESENECE
I want you to notice that first of all that Mary could be used of God and find grace in God's sight because of her awareness of God's presence. In Luke 1:28 the angel comes to Mary and says, ''peace be with you, the Lord is with you and has greatly blessed you.'' Here is a young lady probably a young teenager and think about this there are young teenage girls here this morning, a young teenager who has never experienced intimate relations with a man.
