Proverbs 18:21-22
We are continuing in this series of messages today with a message entitled, "How to Communicate with Your Mate." Look at what the Bible says in Proverbs 18:21, a tremendous passage.
Why did the wisest man in the Old Testament connect the power of the tongue, the power of life and death in communication with finding a wife, with marriage? I believe it is because the key to a lasting marriage, the key to solving problems in relationships has to do with finding the secret of communication. No greater truth has ever been uttered than this. The power of life and death is in the tongue. With my tongue today I preach the words of life, the words of Jesus Christ. With the tongue someone can preach the words of a cult. David Karesch used the power of his tongue. And with the power of his tongue he preached a message that ended in death and destruction. And in our homes, the tongue has the power to give live to marriage or the power to bring death to marriage. It is the same in business; it is the same in church, as we communicate with one another in the family of God and the body of Christ, the power of the tongue. And there is so much about it in the book of Proverbs.
One man was on a bus one day with his friend and they were riding to work. And as they were riding to work, he looked down and noticed that his friend had his wedding ring on the index finger on the right hand. And he said why in the world do you have your wedding ring on your index finger on the right hand? Don't you know you are wearing your ring on the wrong finger and on the wrong hand? He said I know it. I married the wrong woman! And some people think they married the wrong woman when they really just have a problem communicating with the person they married, the wrong woman or the wrong man.
