A Model of Fatherhood!

1Thessalonians 2:10-12
Introduction:
A small boy's definition of Father's Day: "It's just like Mother's Day only you don't spend as much."
"Mommy, if the stork brings us babies, and Santa Claus brings us presents, and the Lord gives us our daily bread, and Uncle Sam provides us with Social Security, why do we keep Daddy around?"
A Father is an unusual person in a household!
Definition of a Father
"A father is a man who carries pictures in his wallet where his money used to be.
It is near as hard to understand a father as a mother and woman!
Story of man wanting something special from God!
JESUS CHRIST used the image of a father to teach us about God. In Matthew 5 - 7 He refers to Jehovah God as God 5 times and as Father 17 times. A dad is somebody who can: catch a fish, fly a kite, plant a flower, catch a butterfly, get a kitty out of the mud. All require dad to be a real person.
The Apostle Paul loved the church and as an apostle was responsible for oversight. Paul's defense for his method of instructing the church was that it was fatherly.
Paul models fatherhood in how he fathered the churches!
He had used constructive techniques such as should be used by a dad in his own household. Three are noted:
I. He accepted his responsibility seriously by realizing!

We are to pass on what we receive from God the Father --
2 Corinthians 3:3-4
Dad's must realize:
A. "I can only properly influence my child when I believe in
who I am."

I am a child of God!
I am a father not because I am qualified but because I have children.
I need to rely on God to help me be the father that He wants me to be!
