Psalm 34:17-20
If you have your Bible this morning, I want you to turn to Psalm 34:18. I am going to use several different Psalms today as we move through the message. And I want to begin a new series entitled, ''Help for Hurting People.'' That is why the church is here, it is not a place where people come who are righteous but it is a hospital for sinners, amen? And it is a first-aide station for those who find themselves hurting and bleeding along the road of life. And there are many, many hurting people in our world. I know that when we are involved in funerals it is a time of grief and a time when people hurt, but not just in that time but everywhere you look about you, you see hurting parents, you see hurting single adults, you see hurting young people, children who are hurting and I believe God has a word for hurting people. And one of the most encouraging words is one I am going to share today. I want to speak today on ''How to Handle Life's Hurts.'' And here is an encouraging passage.
And you know that is a scripture that is contrary to what some people teach today. But it is exactly what Jesus taught when He said in the world you will have tribulation. The Psalmist says many are the afflictions of the righteous. Can you say amen to that? I can. And you find as a Christian that Satan is not going to rest, he is going to war against you, he is going to war against this church, he is going to do everything he can to keep you down. And when you are hurting he is going to do everything he can to discourage you. Now there are at least three ways that we hurt. Number one, we hurt physically. All of us know that these bodies have within the principle of death or the principle of sin and because of that we are going to hurt physically from time to time. Nobody is excluded from physical pain in this life. God did not promise that. The Lord Jesus knew what it was to suffer phy ...
