INTRODUCTION:

1. This morning we have come to celebrate 19 years since the beginning of Bible Fellowship Baptist Church. Much has taken place as the years have gone by:

a. We have witnessed hundreds of people come to Christ through the various ministries of our church. While Mather Air Force Base was still here, we enjoyed having several hundred military people come thorough the doors of our fellowship--many of them receiving the Lord.

b. Another area we are very proud of is in encouraging young people toward Christian education. I am a strong supporter of Christian Colleges. We have been instrumental in counseling somewhere in the neighborhood of 35-40 teenagers, most of them have attended Christian colleges--a great percentage has entered some kind of fulltime service for the Lord.

c. We are thankful for the 21 missionaries we are able to support around the world.

d. We are actively involved in shut-in care ministries--the President James Monroe Manor and the Manor Care Home.

e. Another ministry we have worked in since the beginning of our church has been the Union Gospel Mission. We have seen hundreds come to Christ at the mission.

2. We could go on with all the exciting things that have taken place since God first brought this church into existence, but where I want to spend our remaining time this morning is in the message, "The Church, God's Plan For You." I want to take the word "church," and use it as an acrostic, defining some of the important elements that have to do with the church.

I. CHRIST

1. Jesus said in Matthew 16:18, "I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

A. Jesus is the Head of the Church (vs.22)

1. Colossians 1:18, "And He is the Head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence."
