The "Awe-ful" Moment of Contact with Christ
Jesse M. Hendley
John 2:23-25
I want to speak to you now on "The Awe-ful Moment of Contact with Christ." I use the word AWE-FUL in this sense: a moment filled with AWE, REVERENCE, a tremendous moment of impact when we really reach out and receive the Lord Jesus and He comes unto our souls!
We have a strange text today. It is in the second chapter of the Gospel of John. "Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, in the feast day, many believed in His Name when they saw the miracles which He did. But Jesus did not commit Himself unto them because He knew all men and needed not that any should testify of man, for He knew what was in man."
Notice that verse: "Jesus did not commit Himself unto them."
We speak a lot about "committing ourselves to Christ," but may I say to you today that it is more important to know that Christ has committed Himself to us, and we will not be saved until that moment when Christ commits Himself unto us. That is the important thing. It is more important to know that Christ has committed Himself to me than I have committed myself to Christ. We need to know both, of course, but there is a believing that does not save, according to this passage of Scripture. The Lord tells us why in His Word.

This is the moment of truth, when Jesus gives Himself to me, when Jesus moves into my heart and life to take up His residence and promises never to leave again, when Christ says, "All that I am and have, I give to you." You just want to bow your head and worship! But it is true.
Salvation is a matter of Christ's committal unto us. Do you remember that Jesus Himself said that there is a great day in the future when people will say, "Lord, Lord," but He will say, "I never knew you. You call Me Lord, but I don't know you. You are a stranger to me." Oh, it is more important that Ch ...
