I Thessalonians 3:9-13


We are going to talk again tonight about how important your faith is. Paul says to these believers in Thessalonica in verse 9, "For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy, wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God."

You can tell that Paul is really in love with these believers in Thessalonica. He says in verse 10, "Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect (complete) that which is lacking in your faith (there's that little phrase again). Now God himself and our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you."

He is saying, "I'm praying the Lord will help me to get back to see you."

Verse 12 says, "And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another and toward all men, even as we do toward you. To the end he may stablish (stabilize) your hearts, unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints."

We have to be sure we know where we are in the flow of this letter of Paul's to the young believers in Thessalonica. He had gone there. He had won them to faith in the Lord. Now he is concerned that their faith might grow in the Lord.

In the first chapter he talks about the people. He lifts the roof off the church and talks about what it takes to be the people of God and how you become one of God's children.

We know that the way you become God's children is through the new birth experience. You have to be born into the family of God. Having been born into the family of God you become a part of the universal church, but also the local church. They were a part of this local church in Thessalonica.

Then in the second chapter he opens up his heart and shows you what a pastor should be. He talks about his mission. He talks about the motives which drive his ministry. He talks about the message that ...
