Building Your Faith

I Thessalonians 3:1-2, 6-8
When you lead a person to Christ, you have done the main thing but you haven't done everything. Jesus said that we are to go and make disciples, baptize them, and then we are to teach them to observe all things which God has commanded them. That's where a church comes in. A church is important to that whole process because a church is a place where people are baptized. It is a place where they are taught the Word of God. It is a place where they can hear how they can grow and mature in their faith.
Paul, in this third chapter, shares with us a faith building program in a church. Here's the way it cracks down in the first three chapters of I Thessalonians. In chapter 1 he lifts the roof off the church and shows us the people of the church, these new converts in the Lord. In chapter two he does a spiritual xray of his heart and shows us what a pastor ought to be. In chapter one we see the people. In chapter two we see the pastor.
Then in chapter three he lays out for us a program of spiritual growth so that people can grow and mature in their faith.
In verse 1 and 2 he says, "I sent Timothy to you to establish you concerning your faith." In verses 6 and 8, when Timothy made the trip and came back he brought, "good tidings of your faith and love, and that you have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you. Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith. For now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord."
You will notice a repetition in the verses I have read. You will notice in verse 2 he sent Timothy to comfort you concerning YOUR FAITH. Now in verse 6 he tells about him coming back and in verse 7 he says, "We were comforted in all our affliction and distress by YOUR FAITH." Do you see that repetition? He's talking about their faith.
