Deuteronomy 18:9-12

Now friends we are studying the subject of communication with the dead, fortune-telling, is it forbidden in the Bible, what does God have to say about it in this great revival of spiritism today. My friends, we learned that we are dabbling in these things. People everywhere are doing it. It is a very dangerous thing. We are studying the Word of God on this subject now. We have called your attention already to Leviticus 19:31, Leviticus 20:6, and now Deuteronomy 18:9-12. Let me read it for you and then go into it briefly and we will go on in the scriptures. I hope you have your Bible and a pencil so you can take down these passages.

This is Deuteronomy 18:9-12. "When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, (God is speaking to the people of Israel thou shall not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter or a witch. Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee."

Now here are a whole group of people that God calls, these people who are doing these things, an abomination. And the people of Israel, the nation of Israel, God has been called an unjust God for driving out the Canaanites and giving Israel their land. We learn the reason why right here. They were doing abominable things. Things that were an abomination to God because they were hurtful to people. God is a God of right. Now He says there shall not be found among you, among my people, anyone who useth divination. That is, trying to divine or to know and give out the future by supernatural powers. Nobody.
