CONTENTMENT (Part 2 of 2)

Hebrews 10:32
The Lord Jesus says that Christians ought to be content. Yet we see so much DISCONTENT around us today. We found out in our last message that God doesn't expect the unsaved to be content. Contented, lost? Contented, in sin? Contented, without God? No, such a person would be foolish to be content. But CHRISTIANS should be content.
The writer of the Book of Hebrews says, "Be content with such things as ye have." He is not talking about the possessions of this world, for he has already talked about how these early Christians had LOST their possessions when they accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour.
Chapter 10, verse 32. "But call to remembrance the FORMER days, in which, after ye were illuminated, (after ye accepted Christ), yet endured a great fight of afflictions." People were AFFLICTED for Christ's sake, back in those days. Today people don't throw you to the lions or burn you at a stake or beat you to death or stone you if you become "a Christian." I wonder what would happen today in this city if when you witnessed for JESUS your life would be endangered and you might even be called on to suffer martyrdom and die. Would you recant? Would you turn your back on Christ? Or would you cling to the Lord? It certainly would be a revealing thing, wouldn't it? It would show pretty quickly who really LOVED Jesus enough to love Him UNTO DEATH, as the Bible says. "Be ye faithful UNTO DEATH (die before you would be unfaithful) and I will give you the crown of life."
"After ye were illuminated (after ye were saved), ye endured a great fight of afflictions, partly while ye were made a gazing stock both by reproaches and afflictions, and partly while ye became companions of them that were so used." They were companions of others who suffered for the name of Jesus. All through the New Testament we learn that there is suffering to be endured, if we are really Christians.
