A GOOD SOLDIER OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

Second Timothy 2:1-12
Now there is a good text---"ENTANGLED CHRISTIANS:" No man that warreth---no man that goes to the battle, bothers about the things of this life. He is separated, lock, stock and barrel to the Government. I sometimes hear people sneer---sometimes my own folks---that hurts way down deep, and they say, "well, Hendley's all right, but there's two things I don't like---preaching on the separated life and Hell. I don't like those two things---too much of it; I think there's SOME things you can do!" But you know, the Old Book says that the type of separation for the Christian is a soldier. You ask these fellows who enter the Army if they don't give up everything for Uncle Sam. Everything!
"And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is not crowned, except he strive lawfully. The husbandman that laboreth must be first partakers of the fruits. Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things." That is the reason, when you neglect prayer, that you won't have understanding in all things---that is, the things of God. You must pray to have understanding. We haven't any right to claim to study this book unless we PRAY. "Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my Gospel. Wherein I suffer trouble as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the Word of God is not bound." Isn't that wonderful? You can't stop the Book---its marching right on to consummation. "Therefore I endure - - I ENDURE - can you put your name in there with Paul? Are you ENDURING or FAINTING? Paul said he didn't faint. THEREFORE I endure ALL things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal GLORY!" There's something that goes on with salvation! Hah! Salvation down here---eternal glory goes along with IT. "It is a faithful saying that if we be dead with Him we shall also live with Him. I ...
