Why I Believe in the Holy Spriit

Introduction:
Today, we will continue our series on Why I Believe with the subtheme Bedrock Beliefs for the Shifting Sands of Time. We will look at the most misunderstood person in the Bible, whose title is The Holy Spirit.
Many churches are afraid to broach the subject of the Holy Spirit because they are afraid of being labeled as charismatic. Thus, in an effort to distance themselves from a theological quagmire, they have virtually abandoned the Holy Spirit.
In looking over my old sermons from an academic eye, I realized that I have majored on the Son (Jesus); minored on the Father (God) and taken some elective courses on the Holy Spirit, but today we will examine this third person of the Trinity and attempt to discover a deeper meaning and application of His presence in our daily lives. As a revealer of truth and discernment, the Holy Spirit has no peers. Let's examine how to make Him a force in our lives!
I. The person of the Holy Spirit.
There is a great deal of mystery surrounding the Holy Spirit.
A. The Holy Spirit is vocal.
Acts 13:2 "And while they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, 'Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.'"
B. The Holy Spirit is a guide.
John 16:13
"When the Spirit of Truth comes He will guide you into all truth."
**Allows you to know God's will.
C. The Holy Spirit is a helper.
"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you."
D. The Holy Spirit supports us.
Romans 8:26
"And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness."
E. The Holy Spirit is a comforter.
John 14:16
"I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another comforter, that He may abide with you forever."
