INTRODUCTION
1. When it comes to millionaires, America has a monopoly. We have more millionaires than anyone else in the world; we have more people who want to be millionaires than anyone else in the world; and we have more people who can become millionaires than anyone else in the world. Recently USA TODAY ran a cover story entitled, "Everyone Wants a Shot at Being a Millionaire." The story begins this way:
We live in a society gone millionaire mad. Our national fable used to be: Any kid can grow up to be President. Now we dream that any kid can grow up to be a millionaire, then run for President. (1)
2. In this country, millionaires are almost becoming a common ordinary run-of-the-mill item. There are probably around five million Americans with assets of $1 million or more. Billionaires are multiplying even faster. Today there are somewhere around 267 billionaires. One of the hottest television shows in history is the TV show with the title of this message.
3. MILLIONAIRE magazine, which is dedicated to showing its readers the most expensive goodies they can buy, has more than tripled its circulation to 100,000 in two years. (2)
4. Get on the Internet, click on Amazon.com and type in the M-word, and 269 titles pop up, such as: HOW TO BE A MILLIONAIRE, HOW TO THINK LIKE A MILLIONAIRE, How to become a MILLIONAIRE, HOW TO INVEST LIKE A MILLIONAIRE; or for you single people, HOW TO SNARE A MILLIONAIRE.
5. All of this has led to a whirlpool of want that is spiraling out of control in this country. The monster of materialism is stalking homes, families, and marriages all across America. What is even worse, this monster is often dressed in a clerical collar and a minister's robe. Walk into any Christian bookstore today and you would think that God's primary concern is to make sure that His people make money. Titles such as: JESUS CEO, GOD WANTS YOU ...
