INTRODUCTION

1. Just outside Gatlinburg, Tennessee is a theme park called ''Dollywood'' that is owned by country music legend, Dolly Parton. Besides being a singer and a theme park owner, Parton is also an author. Her autobiography is entitled Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business. On the back of that book is this quote: ''I am not a very religious person - although I grew up with a very religious background. 'Let every man seek his own salvation' is one of my favorite scriptures. . . .'' Well, by all indications Parton is a gifted singer, actress and business person, but she is an extremely poor theologian.

2. First of all, the only thing wrong with that scriptural quotation is that it is not in the Bible. Secondly, what the bible has to say about salvation is totally opposite of what that quote says.

3. Let me share with you the perspective of another very well known public figure, though he has been dead for over 100 years. If you were to ask a music fan, ''Who is the king of music?'' They may tell you, Elvis Presley, or Michael Jackson, or Justin Timberlake. If you were to ask a sports fan, ''Who was the Sultan of Swat?'' They would tell you, Babe Ruth. But if you were to ask ministers who was ''Prince of Preachers?'' They would undoubtedly tell you, Charles Spurgeon.

Before anybody had ever heard of the term ''Megachurch'' Charles Spurgeon pastored one. For many years he was pastor of the Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle in London, England. People had to get tickets two to three weeks early in order to get into the building to hear him preach. On Sunday nights, he would ask his church members to stay at home so visitors could find room in the church services. He has more sermons in print than any other preacher who has ever lived. At the height of his fame, newspapers all over the world carried his sermons every week.

4. But I want to share with you the experience of how he came to salvation. ...
