The king is coming
Dr. James Merritt
Revelation 21:1-27
Introduction
1. In hebrews 11:10, we are told that abraham was ''looking for the city which has foundations whose builder and maker is god,'' now just as abraham was looking for that city) we ought to be looking for that city. We ought to be looking for heaven. We ought to be longing for heaven. We ought to be living for heaven.
2. I have heard some say that most christians are so heavenly minded they are no earthly good. I believe just the opposite of that is true, i believe most christians are so earthly minded they are no heavenly good. Our outlook ought to be determined by our uplook.
3. The bible teaches that there are three heavens. First of all, there is the atmospheric heaven, which is immediately above us; where the birds fly, then there are the planetary heavens; where the sun and the moon and the stars live day in and day out. Amd then there is what the bible calls ''the third heaven.'' paul said in ii cor, 12, ''he was caught up by the spirit into the third heaven.'' this is where god lives.
4. Someone has said that we see the first heaven by day. We see the second heaven by night. We see the third heaven by faith.
5. We are given in this passage of scripture, a look at the third heaven; a glimpse of glory. And it is an unbelievable scene, i'm reminded of alittle boy that was out walking one night with his grandfather, it was a beautiful night; the sky was deep blue, and it seemed like a million stars were on parade. The little boy pulled at his grandfather's coattail and said, ''grandpa, if heaven is so beautiful on the outside, i wonder what it looks like on the inside? We're given here a glimpse of the inside of our eternal home. We're going to look at the capitol city of heaven, the new jerusalem.
I. The location of this city - v.1-2
