Introduction

1. James has a tremendous concern that christians be wise. That we be men of wisdom. For he tells us in verses 1-5 of the first chapter how to get wisdom. Then here in chapter 3 he tells us how to know if you have it.

2. One of the interesting things that you find out about wisdom from james is this. Real wisdom is not found in a man s head. It is found in a man's heart. It is not how much you know. It is who you know that determines whether or not you are truly wise. Wisdom is not found in the accumulation of information. It is found in an attitude of, consecration. Real wisdom is not found in a man's books. It is found in a man's life.

3. You see a man may be brilliant intellectually and yet may not necessarily be wise. For example the bible says in psalm 14:1 ''only the fool has said in his heart there is no god.' now that means that even if a man has an i.q. Of a genius, even if he is an intellectual giant, he may be a professor at harvard or mit. If this man does not know the lord, he is a foolish, dumb man. He has absolutely no wisdom.

4. You see there are some tremendous values in wisdom. One of the things that james wants us to understand is that wisdom is greater than anything else you can have in this life. For example: solomon tells us just how valuable wisdom is.

A. Solomon says first of all that wisdom is better than money (proverbs 3:13-14). One of the most amazing things that i have ever seen is when i was at first baptist, dallas about 8 years ago and i came walking out of the church and there were armed guards all around and a brink's truck that was there and there were men even up on the roof watching- over the church, asked a member what was going on and he said, ''oh that's the way they always have to guard the morning offering for they take up close to 200 thousand dollars in that church every sunday.
