1 John 2:18-27
Introduction
1. John is talking to his children, he is talking to the family of god, this is a family tall. John is giving a fireside chat to his children. He has warned them about the conflict between light and darkness, he has warned them about the conflict between love and hatred, now he is warning themabout the conflict between truth and error. We are going to find out that it is not enough for a christian to walk in the light of god or in the love of god or even in the love of god. The christ-ian must also walk in the truth of god,
2. There is a great war going on today but it is not the war between the democrats and the republicans or the liberals and the conservatives or even democracy and communism. It is the-war between truth and error, between light and darkness, between the church of jesus christ and the demons of hell. We who are christians are to be on the front line of that battle with the cross of jesus going on before. Our general is jesus. Our weapon is the sword of the spirit. And our banner is truth.
3. Notice in verse 18 that john is dealing with the last hour or the last days. John is trying to teach his children what time it is. One of the things you have to teach little kids is how to tell time. I heard about two little boys who were out playing one afternoon and one little boy said to the other one, ''do you know what time it is? He said, ''no. But i know it is not 4 o'clock.'' he said ''how do you know that?'' he said,''because my mother told me to be home at 4 and i'm not.'' now some christians are confused by the use of the word the last hour or the last days because it appears as if john was saying he was in the last hour. Now you ask, are we in the last days or was john in the last days? The answer is yes. That is we are both in the last days. Since the cross we have always been in the last hour or the last days.
