Introduction
1. I want to begin today by asking you 3 questions. The first question: can a christian sin? Well, the bible says that all christians sin. As a matter fact, according to the word of god there is only one christian who has ever lived who never sinned and that was the lord jesus christ.1 peter lied. David committed adultery. Moses waf a murderer. But not only does the bible tell us that christians sin. Experience tells us that christians sins is there any christian here today who would be willing to raise his hand and say i have never sinned as a christian or i do not sin now as a christian? Well, of course no one would do that.
2. My next question: if a christian sins, can he lose his salvation? I believe the bible gives an unequivocal and emphatic no to that question, but there are tho-se who believe that a christian can lose his salvation, now if you believe that let me ask you a question. What can make a christian lose his salvation? You say, sin. My next question then is how much sin? And what kind of sin can make you lose your salvation? You see god demands absolute perfection. And if sin could make you lose your salivation then it would only take « of 1 sin to damn you forever. Listen i wouldn't trust the best 15 minutes i have ever lived in my life to get me into heaven. No, as we will find out as we study 11 john, a christian cannot lose his salvation.
3. When a christian does sin, what does he do? What can he do? What should he do? John is concerned with answering that question. 2
4. You need to understand something about salvation. In the bible salvation is given in 3 tenses. There is a past a present and a future tense to salvation. You see i have been saved from the penalty of sin. I am being saved from the power of sin. And one day i will be saved from the presence of sin. I have been saved from the penalty of sin by the death of jesus. I am being saved from the po ...
