"Where's The Beef?"

Introduction

1. A very popular commercial comparing hamburgers was out recently. It starred a sweet little ole lady who was comparing hamburgers and she was shown buying one hamburger which had very large slabs of bread with a small sliver of meat in between and she would take one look at that little piece of meat and utter these immortal words "Where's the beef?" Now that is a very humorous commercial but I believe it makes a very valid point. The point of the commercial is that a lot of hamburger chains make a lot of the same promises concerning the quality and the quantity of their meat. But how many actually deliver? How many actually give you the meat for the money?

2. So this commercial is simply saying let s get down to the meat of the matter. Take away the bread and the lettuce and the tomato and the onions and the ketchup and the mustard and the/mayonnaise and let s see just whose got the beef, when you buy a hamburger who s going to give you the beef and who’s going to give you the business? Who puts their meat where their mouth is?

3. I want to ask the same question about religion and about religious leaders. Down through the centuries there have been scores of religious leaders great teachers and divine prophets who have claimed to be prophets from God, messianic deliverers and the way to heaven. They all make various claims. They all make various promises and they all say that if you want to know the truth about God and eternity and heaven, listen to me. He question I want to ask today whether you are a Mormon, Moonie or a Muslim is this; where's the beef? When it comes to Jesus, Mohammed, Sung Yung Noon, Joseph Smith, Mary Baker Eddy, Buddha, Confucius, and all of the rest, where s the beef. Who s really telling the truth? And by what right do they claim to be the true revelation of God?
