Plowing in Satan's Field
Dan Rodgers
Acts 13:1-13
ILLUS: Last week we received an e-mail from our missionaries in Kenya, Hoyt and Lois Osborne. As you're aware, Hoyt has been in serious condition with a medical complication to one of his legs. The problem had become so serious that he had to be hospitalized. Lois had sent us an e-mail asking us to pray for him, which we did.
Let me share just a few words from her follow-up e-mail:
Greetings in the name of our mighty Lord. Thank you all for your prayers. Hoyt is on the mend and getting better with each day. Hopefully, he will be able to come home from the hospital soon. It is such a blessing to be able to share our burdens with you, and to know that you will take our needs before the throne.
Satan has been continually fighting us. If it isn't Hoyt's illness, then it's the difficulty we've experienced in starting our new Bible College. And, if you can believe it, now I have pink eye? It's in both eyes. I also have an infection in another part of my body, as well? When you plow in Satan's field he gets mad. We've had people saved every week lately, and the Devil is not at all happy about it. It makes him mad. He seems to fight us every step of the way.
INTRODUCTION:
1. When I read Lois' e-mail, one of her statements caught my attention: "When you plow in Satan's field he gets mad." Thus, the title of my message this morning, "Plowing in Satan's field."
2. Let me establish what I mean when I refer to Satan's field.
a. The "field" is the world - the physical and spiritual domain of the Devil. In Scripture he is referred to as the "God of this world" and "the Prince and power of the air."
b. Yes, we know that God is sovereign, and we know that He is ultimately in control...nothing slips by Him. However, keep in mind, Satan has tremendous power--power second only to God.
1) Unfortunately, when God kicked him out of heaven, he landed on the earth. Rev. 12:12, "Woe to t ...
