Our great desire is to lift up the Lord, Jesus Christ, in all that we do here at Eastside Baptist Church, and our purpose is, "To Know Him and To Make Him Know." I know of no better way to do that than to simply present Him to you as He is revealed to us in the Scriptures.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him there was not anything made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

But Isaiah, the prophet, predicted His incarnation. He said, "There shall come forth a rod from the stem of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of His roots. The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him. The spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

Behold the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel... And the government shall be upon His shoulders, and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace, there will be no end.

And then of course, Luke reports the birth of the Lord, and says, "Joseph also went up from Galilee out of the city of Nazareth into Judea to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his espoused wife, who was with child. So it was that while they were there the days were accomplished for her to be delivered, and she brought forth her first born son and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger because there was no room for them in the Inn.

Luke also tells us that Jesus, as a child, increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and men.
