REPENTANCE!
Jesse M. Hendley
John 4:17
The subject, friends, is "Repentance." I don't know of
any subject more important. God says if you have not
repented and turned to the Lord Jesus Christ for
salvation, you are LOST! I want you to understand
this.
Why Important?
REPENTANCE is important because of those who preached
it.
John the Baptist preached it. We read in Matthew 3:2
that John the Baptist came preaching, "Repent ye, for
the kingdom of the heavens is at hand."
Christ, immediately after John, picked up the
same theme. In John 4:17, Jesus began to preach and
say, "Repent ye, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
The Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ preached
repentance. In Mark 6:12 we read that Jesus sent out
the Twelve to preach, and they went out and preached
that men should repent! That was the message Jesus
gave them to preach.
The Early Church preached it. We read in Acts 17:30
that the Apostle Paul on Mars Hill preached to some of
the greatest intellects of his day (and of any other
day), and he said, "God has commanded all men
everywhere to repent, forasmuch as He has appointed a
Day when He will judge the world in righteousness by
that Man Whom He ordained," and that Man is Jesus
Christ.
God has commanded it! He did not say, "Please." He has
ordered that all men, of every skin color, all men
alive on the face of the earth, to REPENT! Why? There
is coming a Judgment Day, and they will be judged for
their sins if they don't repent. If they do not
repent, they will have to face their sins in judgment.
Oh, how we need to preach repentance!
In Acts 20:21 the Apostle Paul came back to Miletus
and gathered together the elders of the church at
Ephesus and said to them as he was parting from them,
"I preached to you publicly and from house to house
with tears REPENTANCE toward God and faith toward the
Lord Jesus Christ."
Paul said, "You have sinned against God. You h ...
