Exodus 33:14
Now if you have your Bibles, friends, turn with me to Exodus 33:14 and we want to speak to you today on the subject, "God's Presence Within Us, Our Only Rest and Peace." The only rest and peace for the human heart is God's Presence within our hearts and lives, God's literal Presence, and the consciousness of His Presence.
We read in Exodus 33:14, "And God said to Moses, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest." So we have for our message today, "God's Presence, Our Guarantee of Rest."
Notice, REST of God is a gift. It is something God must GIVE us. It is something we cannot buy. We are not worthy of it. We cannot earn it. We cannot work it up. It is a GIFT. You do not earn a gift; you do not buy a gift. You can only receive a gift!
Notice again, it is a gift not given apart from Himself. "My PRESENCE shall go with thee." Any man who thinks he has rest apart from the presence of God is deluded, because there is no true rest apart from God's presence. God's presence alone can bring rest.
Notice, He goes with His people. "My presence shall GO WITH thee." Moses, a man who loved God with all his heart, responded to God and obeyed God in whatever God told him to do. He was a man sold out to God. He sought God with all his heart.
Surely today the greatest gift a human being can have is rest and peace from God. There is no gift comparable to this, and a person who does not have this gift from God is unspeakably poor, whatever other gifts he may receive. From this passage we know that God does give rest to those who receive HIM into their hearts and lives. "My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest." God's presence and rest go along together! God never gives rest apart from the Gift of Himself. He gives Himself, and WITH Himself comes rest.
