John 17:3
I want to speak to you today on the subject, "Eternal
Life." In John 17:3 our Lord Jesus says, "This is life
eternal, that they might know Thee, the only true God,
and Jesus Christ Whom Thou hast sent." Salvation,
friends, is knowing Jesus Christ and God the Father.
Salvation is a fellowship with God. It is KNOWING Him.
The word KNOW means intimacy. It means to know the
Lord in a vital way. It means the greatest intimacy
anyone could have. It is an intimacy greater than
parents with children, greater than husband with wife.
Knowing the Lord and walking with the Lord is eternal
life. "This is life eternal, TO KNOW THEE, the Only
true God, AND JESUS CHRIST Whom Thou hast sent."
Knowing God as our Father, and knowing Jesus Christ as
our personal Saviour, means fellowship. God put it in
one of the epistles under the word FELLOWSHIP. "Truly
our FELLOWSHIP is with the Father and with His Son
Jesus Christ" Fellowship means sharing. It means
intimacy. It means a walk. It means companionship. It
means a daily life, moving together in life's journey.
So this is life ETERNAL.
There are three things involved in this matter of
eternal life. It involves a life companion, the Lord
Jesus. It involves a life discipline, a certain way of
living that we must live to walk with Christ. We can't
walk with Jesus and walk our way and the way of the
world, too. It involves a life of joy. A Companion, a
Discipline, and Joy. This life is filled with joy that
no one can take away from us.
LIFE COMPANION
Eternal Life involves a Life Companion, the Lord Jesus
Christ. Worlds of people make the mistake of putting
some human being in the place of Jesus, and when that
happens, inevitably we are going to come to the place
sooner or later that it will not work. No earthly
person can be with us all the time, but Jesus Christ
can. Two people cannot be together all the time ...
