GOD'S GREAT LOVE TOKEN TO MAN (2 of 4)
Jesse M. Hendley
Exodus 12:13
We are taking for our text Exodus, chapter 12, verse
13, "And the BLOOD shall be to you for a token, upon
the houses where ye are. And when I see the BLOOD I
will pass over you and the plague shall not be upon
you to destroy you when I smite the land of Egypt."
"And the blood shall be to you for a token." What a
wonderful thing it is God's great love-token unto us,
assurance unto us, evidence unto us, badge unto us, of
His favor and of His grace and of His kindness and of
OUR SECURITY AND SAFETY AND SALVATION!
Israel was in the land of Egypt in slavery. The
Egyptians were fighting against GOD. God gives to
Israel this wonderful way out, this salvation. They
shall take a lamb, and they shall cut its throat and
they shall catch its blood in a basin and dip a hyssop
sprig in that blood, and then sprinkle the blood on
the outside on the doorposts of the houses, the lintel
and the two side posts. And God said, "When I see the
blood, I will pass over you." He made this statement:
"The blood shall be to you for A TOKEN."
We found that the word TOKEN means something that God
has given unto us as of authority, as of good faith,
as of evidence, a witness of His love and care and
wonderful redemption.
We found out how this blood had to be applied. It had
to be applied publicly and openly and definitely so
everybody could see it. The parallel today is our
personal faith in Jesus Christ and our confession of
Him openly and publicly as Saviour and Lord and our
following Him all the way He may lead.
We have the New Testament right to call this blood (in
Exodus12) A TYPE of the Blood of Christ. Paul writing
to the Corinthians says, "Christ, our Passover, hath
been sacrificed for us."
What is THE MEANING, then, of this blood sprinkled on
the doorposts of the houses just before the destroying
angel was to pass through the land?
