Ephesians 1:1-2
I want to speak to you today on "A Letter From God to
You." Turn with me, please, to Ephesians 1:1-2.
Children
Everybody likes to receive letters. Little children
like to receive letters. If you haven't written a
letter to a child lately, do it. It will mean much to
them. It means, "Somebody cares for me." There is no
possibility of an ulterior motive! Let's remember the
little children and the joy it brings to them to get a
letter.
Our Daughter
We like to hear from our loved ones. Our daughter and
her family live away from Atlanta and sometimes we get
hungry to hear from our daughter and we'll go to the
telephone and call her. Sometimes she will write to
us. The other day I was hungry to hear from her, and
when I went to the mailbox, there was a letter. It was
good just to recognize her handwriting. I tore open
that letter and I read aloud to my wife that letter
from our daughter. It was a precious thing.
A Pastor
The other day I received a letter from a pastor-
friend, just a personal letter. He didn't have to
write. He just wanted to write me. I appreciated it.
A California Friend
The other day I had a telephone call from a pastor-
friend in California. It wasn't about a meeting. It
wasn't about Christian work. He just wanted to call
me, a personal call. I appreciated it. It was warm,
personal, and it stayed in my heart, to know somebody
cared for me enough to do that.
Now, GOD cares for us, and here is A LETTER FROM GOD.
God sent it to us through the Apostle Paul.
Paul, An Apostle
We read in Ephesians 1, "Paul, an Apostle of Jesus
Christ." Paul is the one through whom God sent His
letter. "Apostle" is apostalos in Greek. It means "one
sent forth on a mission, an assignment, an errand."
Gabriel was SENT from God to the Virgin Mary. Angels
were SENT by God on certain missions for the Lord.
