A CHRISTMAS MESSAGE ABOUT JOSEPH
Jesse M. Hendley
Matthew 1:16-25
Our study for today, friends, is HOW GOD DIRECTS
LIVES. God does direct lives! In the account God gives
us in Matthew of Joseph, we have a lesson of how God
directs a life of a man obedient to Him. God can
direct us only when we are obedient. The reason He
does not lead in many of our lives is that we are not
obedient to Him. He cannot communicate with those who
disobey Him. He cannot get through to us. He cannot
direct our steps.
PROVERBS 3:5,6
In Proverbs 3:5,6 is a passage that has blessed many
people down through the years: "TRUST IN THE LORD WITH
ALL THINE HEART AND LEAN NOT UNTO THINE OWN
UNDERSTANDING. IN ALL THY WAYS ACKNOWLEDGE HIM, AND
HE SHALL DIRECT THY PATHS." Paths, plural! There are
many paths in our lives: the business path, the home
path, the sports path, the education path, the path of
trials, and many other paths. Whatever path your life
takes, God will direct you in that particular thing if
you obey Him. We can have divine direction from the
Lord! Isn't that what we want more than anything else?
But notice, there is a qualification: "In all thy ways
acknowledge Him." That means to acknowledge His
rulership, His guidance, in your life, to seek His
will for your life. It means to be obedient to the
Lord, to DO what God wants you to do. Now if we do
that, He will direct our lives. If we do not, He will
not be able to direct our paths. He cannot even
communicate with us, much less direct us.
God can and does direct the lives of certain people.
He communicates to them His will and they in turn are
obedient to that will of God. God directs only when we
are OBEDIENT to that which He communicates to us. And
He will direct our paths, all of them, in our entire
life, if we do this.
The life that GOD directs is the successful life. The
life not directed by God is not successful. To the
degree that we try to ...
