THE CHILD OF GOD, WALKING IN THE LIGHT AMID THE
WORLD'S DARKNESS

Ephesians 5:8-21

Turn with me, friends to Ephesians 5:8-21. "Ye WERE
once darkness, but now ARE light in the Lord. Walk as
children of light."

Saved and Unsaved

Unsaved people are called darkness; saved people are
called light. "Ye were darkness; ye are light."
Unsaved people are darkness itself. It doesn't say
here that they walk in darkness; they ARE darkness.
Saved people are light itself. It doesn't say they
walk in light; they ARE light. So people aren't
walking toward darkness or toward light, but they ARE
darkness or they ARE light.

Darkness

What is meant by darkness? It means ignorance of God,
insecurity, death, fear. Jesus says the man who walks
in darkness doesn't know where he is going, and we
read, "Those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of
death, unto them a Great Light is sprung up." Darkness
is ignorance of God.

Light

Light is knowledge of God. A child of God knows where
he is going. It is security because he knows God will
take care of him. It is life, eternal life. It is hope
and joy and peace in this present world.

People of Darkness

We studied how dark people are manifested, and we want
to conclude that thought today and then go into the
great examination question regarding people who are in
the light.

People in the dark commit acts that the Bible calls
sin. This displeases God. They are living that kind of
life. They are living in the fellowship of a society
which propagates death. Their lives are unfruitful for
God. They are unconvicted of any wrong in their lives.
They do shameful things in secret. They are living
among the dead, spiritually. They are called "the
dead" themselves. That is what we have already
studied.

Now we come to three things about people in the dark.

Fools, Unwise

They are called "fools" in verse 15. "See that ye walk
