CAN GOD/ STRANGE MIXTURE OF UNBELIEF
Jesse M. Hendley
Psalm 78:19
Today we are reading from Psalm 78 verse 19, friends,
and I pray that it will be a rich blessing to our
hearts, as we wait upon God.
"Yea, they spake against God. They said, Can God
furnish a table in the wilderness?" I hope you will
read all of this great Psalm. In my meditation of this
Psalm, these words seemed to just stand out of the
text. It seemed to me that this was something the Lord
would have me bring to you today, this is a solemn
statement. "Yea, they spake against God. They said,
Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?"
They are words of unbelief. "Can God." They say, "Can
God?" "Is God able?" is the literal reading in the
Hebrew. Now FAITH does not say, "Can GOD?" FAITH says,
"God is able." The morning after the prophet Daniel
had been cast into the den of lions, the king came
lamentably expecting to see the bones of Daniel broken
into a thousand pieces. He had not slept, lamenting
the fate of Daniel, and comes and says, "0 Daniel, is
thy God able to save thee from the lion's mouth?" And
Daniel replies, "My God is able!" "My God hath shut
the lion's mouth." That is the word of FAITH. Faith
does not doubt that God can. Faith knows that all
things are possible to Him that believeth. Faith says
He is able to keep us from falling and to present us
faultless before the presence of His glory with
exceeding joy. Faith says He is able to do exceeding
abundantly above all that we ask or think. Faith
always reverses, "Can God?" and says, God CAN!"
Notice here the strange mixture of unbelief in the
hearts of Christians. Now I am going to back up with
Scripture this statement. There IS a strange mixture
of unbelief in the hearts of Christians. You remember
that one man cried out one time, "Lord, I believe;
help Thou my unbelief." Notice---belief, and unbelief.
Faith and NO Faith in the one person. Now that man
