WHERE DID JESUS GO WHEN HE DIED

I Peter 3:19

If you have your Bibles now, friends, turn with me to
First Peter 3:19.

The other night I was sitting in my study, my wife and
I together, and she brought up a question that had
been on her mind in her studies of the Word of God.
She said, "You know, I've been thinking about where
the thief went when he died on the cross. It is said
that Jesus said to the thief, `Today thou shalt be
with Me in paradise.' Where was the paradise of that
very day when Jesus took the repentant thief along
with Him?"

That is an interesting question.

We read that Jesus was on earth forty days and forty
nights before He went back into heaven. Where did the
thief go with Jesus? Where was paradise?

Paradise is mentioned in several aspects in the Bible.
Paradise is mentioned in Genesis, in the original
creation when God created the Garden of Eden, a
beautiful garden-park where He placed Adam and Eve.
That was called Paradise.

Then we read that Paul was caught up into Paradise
when he had that marvelous experience he doesn't tell
us the details about. He says, "I don't know whether I
was in the flesh or out of the flesh but I was caught
up into the third heaven into paradise and heard
things unlawful for a man to utter." Now there
Paradise is the very Presence of God, the heaven of
heavens.

Then in the last two chapters of Revelation we read of
the Paradise of God. The Holy City is called the Para-
dise of God, where we shall spend Eternity, new
heavens and new earth, with the Lord. The word
generally carries with it the sense of a beautiful
park, a lovely, lovely park, that which delights one;
but Paradise here carries with it the sense of the
whole future world because of its blessing. TO BE WITH
JESUS in the next world will be PARADISE; will be the
ultimate in blessing and joy eternal! Oh, how won-
derful it will be.
