LEST WE DRIFT

Hebrews 2:1

Friends, if you have your Bibles, I want you to turn
with me to Hebrews chapter 2, verse 1. "Therefore we
ought to give the more earnest heed to the things
which we have heard, lest at any time we should let
them slip." Let us change that passage to read, "Lest
at any time we DRIFT." The Greek text gives it that
way. "We ought to give the more earnest heed to the
things which we have heard lest at any time we DRIFT."

Three things are found in this statement in God's
Word. The first is, the THINGS WE HAVE HEARD, the
importance of these wonderful things we have heard
about Jesus. The second is, the necessity of earnestly
HEEDING and RETAINING IN OUR MIND these wonderful
things about Jesus. And the third is, DANGER OF
DRIFTING.

May God speak to our hearts today from His word!
In this text is a word of warning. Let me remind you
that the Book of Hebrews WARNS AGAINST APOSTASY. In my
mail today is a letter from a lady, a young Christian.
She says, "I fear I am in danger of backsliding."

DON'T! DON'T BACKSLIDE.

But how can you keep from it? This text, Hebrews 2:1,
will tell you how. KEEP IN YOUR MIND earnestly the
things that you have heard, about the Lord Jesus!
Jesus must be FIRST, before child, before home, before
body, before the world, before ANYTHING else. Our
relationship with Jesus must be FIRST! The person who
puts JESUS FIRST will not backslide. But the person
who does NOT put Jesus first, friends, will be in
danger of DRIFTING! Of backsliding from the Lord! In
Hebrews is a warning! Read it over and over again!
There are tremendous warnings in Hebrews about the
danger of backsliding.

First of all, we have the IMPORTANCE of the wonderful
things that we have heard about Jesus. THE IMPORTANCE,
of the things we have heard. WHAT things have we
heard? We have heard about Jesus Christ, dying on the
