2 Timothy 3:14-17


In Second Timothy 3:14 to 17 we find a very precious teaching from the Word of God. "But continue thou," Paul writes to Timothy, his young convert a young preacher of the Gospel," in the things which thou hast learned, and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them. And that from a child thou hast learned the holy Scriptures which are able to make thee wise unto salvation, through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration from God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."

Notice verse 15. "From a child."

Notice verse 17. "The man of God."

Paul talking about the same man! He was talking about Timothy. Timothy was a man of God, a great preacher. How did he get that way? Because he had a mother who was a godly woman, who taught him from the time he knew anything at all, THE HOLY WRITINGS, THE SACRED SCRIPTURES, THE WORD OF GOD. Oh, my friends, what greater heritage can a child have than a godly mother who will teach him the Scriptures? Surely there is nothing greater. "From a child thou hast known the holy Scriptures."

"That the man of God may be thoroughly furnished unto all good works." Here is a man of God, once a child taught by a godly mother the Holy Scriptures, making him wise unto salvation in Christ, wise in the service of his God. There is nothing more wonderful than a godly mother teaching her child the sacred Scriptures.

There have been many godly mothers---some in the Bible, some out of the Bible.

We read in Hebrews, chapter 11, that by faith, Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents because they saw that he was a proper child, and they were not afraid of the king's commandment. There we have the FAITH OF PARENTS. Jochebed, his mother ...
