GETTING THINGS FROM GOD!
Jesse M. Hendley
John 3:22
God says that it is possible for every Christian;
every born-again child of God, to enjoy the life of no
worry, and to have the very peace that God has, never
troubled by a single care. We learn that we can have
that life through prayer, supplication, and
thanksgiving to God.
We are coming now to another profound and amazing
statement, and it is found in First John 3:22. (If you
have your Bible, turn with me, please, to that
passage.) We are going to find out WHY some of us
don't get any answers to prayer! And how we CAN have
answers to prayer. That is important, isn't it? There
are things you WANT, and God says you have not because
you ASK NOT. One reason why we don't get things from
God is that we don't ASK. Another reason is that there
is definite SIN IN OUR LIVES. We do things that are
sinful and God says He cannot answer our prayers while
there is sin in our lives. But here in First John 3:22
is His statement:
"Whatsoever we ASK, we RECEIVE of Him, because we keep
His commandments, and do the things that are pleasing
in His sight."
Here is a profound thing, a tremendous truth. He is
telling us here about heart-condemnation. He says, "If
our hearts condemn us not, then have we boldness, or
confidence, toward God." Heart-condemnation means, the
heart rising up against us and telling us something is
wrong in our lives. We must have hearts free of
condemnation and we CAN have such a heart.
Now let's look at this verse. "Whatsoever we ask, we
receive of Him." May I translate that, "Whatsoever we
ARE ASKING, we ARE RECEIVING from Him, because His
commandments we ARE KEEPING, and the things pleasing
before Him WE ARE DOING." That is a LITERAL
translation of that passage. We do not ask, and ask,
and ask, and never get an answer. No, we RECEIVE. A
farmer could not very well carry on, if he just
planted and planted and planted. No, a far ...
