AMERICA GOING DOWNHILL

Hosea 1:1-10, 2:2-10
My subject today is "American Going Downhill" and I am
reading from the Book of Hosea, chapter one. "The Lord
that came unto Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days of
Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and
in the days of Jereboam, the son of Joash, king of
Israel. The beginning of the word of the Lord by
Hosea. And the Lord said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee
a wife of whoredoms and the children of whoredoms: for
the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from
the Lord."
God speaks here of the nation of Israel as being His
wife, and Israel is like an unfaithful wife leaving
her husband. When a nation departs from serving the
Lord, she becomes like a woman who is unfaithful to
her husband and living in a state of whoredom. It is
an awful word, but I am saying to you that OUR OWN
LAND is departing rapidly from the Lord.
A Lesson from God's Word
"So he (Hosea) went and took Gomer," we read in verse
3, "the daughter of Diblaim; which conceived and bare
him a son. And the Lord said unto him, Call his name
Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the
blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will
cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel."
Those are terrible words. Will CAUSE TO CEASE the
kingdom of the house of Israel. Why would it cease?
Because of Israel's sins!
Friends, today America is the foremost nation in the
world. All the world has its eyes on America. God has
brought us to this great power and leadership. We are
the leading nation of the world. But as surely as we
are departing from the living God on a national scale,
just so surely will God CAUSE TO CEASE our place of
leadership, the place of blessing and luxury and
opportunity that we have today. This is a glorious
land, a wonderful land. But we are definitely GOING
DOWNHILL as fast as we can ...
