James 4:2
I want to speak to you now on two great requirements
for revival and the blessing of God in our souls.
Those two words are Faith and Prayer. From the Book
of James and the Book of Matthew we are going to study
today the reason why many of us are not getting
anything from God. You know, there is such a thing as
being a clean Christian, believing on the Lord, being
born again and prayerful and studying the Bible, and
yet not being able to get things from God, answers to
prayer. Now why? These people pray, but they are not
praying in Faith.
Jesus tells us that there are two requirements for
answers to prayer. In chapter 4, verse 2, it is
written: "Ye have not because you ask not." We are not
going to get anything from God unless we ASK Him for
it. He is delighted when His people ASK Him for
things. So if we expect, to get things, we must PRAY
for them. But Prayer alone is not enough. We must
have more than prayer. We must have faith. In James,
Chapter one, we read, "If any of you lack wisdom, let
him ask of God that giveth to all men liberally and
upbraideth not and it shall be given him. But let him
ask in faith, nothing wavering, for he that wavereth
is like a wave of the sea, driven with the wind and
tossed. Let not that man think that he shall receive
anything of the Lord. A double-minded man is unstable
in all his ways."
Now notice. "Let not that man think he will receive
anything from the Lord." What man? The man who prays
but WAVERS. The man who prays but not in FAITH.
George Mueller said one time, after years of prayer
and answers to prayer, "I always felt that if my heart
was clean; and if I prayed and asked something
according to God's will, and kept praying about it and
depended on getting the answer, I would get it. I
didn't worry about delays. It might not be answered in
a week, or a month, or ...
