COST OF DISCIPLESHIP

Luke 9:57-62

Turn with me, please, to the Gospel of Luke, 9:57
through 62. Here we have the COST OF DISCIPLESHIP to
the Lord Jesus Christ. "And it came to pass, that, as
they went in the way, a certain man said unto him,
Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. And
Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and the birds
of the air have nests, but the Son of man hath not
where to lay his head. And he said unto another,
follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go
and bury my father. Jesus said unto him, let the dead
bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of
God. And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee;
but let me first go and bid them farewell, which are
at home at my house. And Jesus said unto him, No man,
having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is
fit for the kingdom of God."

The Lord lays before them the cost of discipleship.
Any emotion or religious movement that tries to let
you remain in a state of known sin and still be right
with God is FALSE. That is absolutely contrary to the
teaching of the Bible. The teaching of both Old and
New Testament is that God is a HOLY God. Jesus is a
HOLY Christ, and to walk with Him it is necessary that
we turn our backs upon this world and give it up.

"And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a
certain man said unto Him, Lord"-- Now we don't know
what happened to this man. We simply know that the
Lord Jesus told him the price that he would have to
pay. He called Jesus, "Lord." Whether Jesus was really
his Lord or not, I do not know. But I do know that the
Lord laid down here for me and for you the cost of
following Him. This man said, "Lord, I WILL follow
Thee Whithersoever thou goest." That is a wonderful
thing to say to Jesus! It is a wonderful thing to
say, "Lord, I will go with You, wherever You go. I
will go wherev ...
