The Holy Spirit and Power (1 of 6)
The Holy Spirit
Jesse M. Hendley
Acts 1:8
October 11, 1907---November 30,1994

If we would take a text this morning, it would be Acts
1:8: "But ye shall receive POWER, after that the Holy
Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto
me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria,
and unto the uttermost part of the earth." The word
for POWER is "dunamis," from which we get dynamo and
dynamite-dynamic. Every Christian will be a spiritual
dynamo with the explosive power of dynamite to break
hearts, and will remain dynamic as he is filled with
the Spirit.

What is the outstanding characteristic in the lives of
Christians today? It should be POWER, but it is the
very opposite of POWER. We have everything else but
POWER. Men today say that they have to spend more time
getting an education. I have nothing against
education, but there is one thing that is more needful
and that is POWER. Spurgeon was right when he said
that he believed the Lord would use a poor unlearned
man or woman who is filled with the Spirit far greater

demands POWER - a supernatural POWER, a POWER that is
above the natural.

Christ said, "Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings
hast thou ordained strength" (Psa. 8:2). God gives the
supernatural means to accomplish the supernatural
thing. We need POWER today.

The chief trouble with the Church today is that we are
saying, "We will hear and teach the Word, and leave
the results with God." That is an opiate. We say, "We
will leave the results with God." That is not
according to the Book. Everything that I will give you
this morning is Scripture. We say, "We will do the
best we can and leave the results ...
