Jude 1:17-23
I would like to share with you a great truth from the
Word of God: A soul-winner's life is filled with power
and blessing.
In the book of Jude, God tells us how to conduct
ourselves in the days of apostasy. We are in those
days today. This is a great book, of only one chapter.
I'll not try to cover the entire chapter, but I call
your attention to verse 18, where it describes the
condition of the world in days of apostasy.
Let's begin reading with verse 17, "Beloved, remember
the words which were spoken before by the apostles of
our Lord Jesus Christ, how they told you there would
be mockers in the last time, who would walk after
their own ungodly lusts. These are they who separate
themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit."
Then we are told how Christians are to live in days of
apostasy: "But you, beloved, building up yourselves on
your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep
yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy
of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life."
Then verse 23: "And others sane with fear, pulling
them out of the fire, hating even the garment spotted
by the, flesh. "
In the first part of this chapter, the author talks
about apostasy, about contending for the faith, about
the way Christians are to stand in the midst of an
unbelieving world in days of apostasy. The word
apostasy means "desertion or repudiation of one's
faith."
In verse 20 he says there are five things we should
do. We are to be building, praying, keeping, looking,
and pulling. "Building yourselves up on your most holy
faith, praying in the Spirit, keeping yourselves in
the love of God, looking for the mercy of the Lord
Jesus Christ [that is, His return], and pulling
[snatching] souls out of the fire."
The word pulling is from the Greek word harpazo and it
is used in 1 Thessalonians ...
