THE SECRET OF A LIFE LIVED FOR GOD

In John 14:23 is a wonderful promise. "Jesus answered
and said unto Judas (not Iscariot) if a man love Me,
he will keep My words. And My Father will love Him and
we will come unto Him, and make our abode with him."
If a man love Me, he will keep My words. How marvelous
it is when God uses a man fully surrendered to Him!

Dr. A. T. Pierson calculated that Moody in the
aggregate brought the claims of Christ to the
attention of 100,000,000 men and women. One hundred
million! Isn't that a statement? How God did use D. L.
Moody! Recently in going over his life again we read
of the glorious triumph of that man. When he came down
to die, with his very last breath he said, "Is this
dying? Then death is bliss." That is the way this
child of God went into eternity. Death! Is this what
people are drawing back from, people are afraid of,
terrorized by, thinking about? Why, dying is bliss,
said D. L. Moody. Don't forget the man who said that,
friends. He was a man, even as you and I are. But he
was a man surrendered to God. At Moody's funeral
service, the man who preached the funeral sermon
called attention to four things about Moody---four
things that characterized his life and made him the
man he was.

The first cardinal feature of the phenomenal D. L.
Moody was his ATTACHMENT TO THE WORD OF GOD. Moody
loved his Bible. He read it more than any other book.
It is said that learned men (Moody was not a man of
the schools, you remember) sat at his feet because of
his tremendous command of the Bible. He couldn't read
a sentence in the Greek or Hebrew. He couldn't even
pronounce many of the words in the Bible. But he knew
his Bible so marvelously, living in it, making it the
very breath of his being, that educated men would sit
at Moody's feet to learn from him.
