Isaiah 7:13-25
On Saturday May 18, 1996, I listened to the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States of America. Even though a distance of about ten feet separated us, I realized our hearts were beating together. He does not know me, and I do not know him; yet we know the same thing. I heard urgency in his address. I also know, that as one of our nation's leaders, he does not communicate everything he knows. The American people are in a coma, and refuse to hear it.
Several weeks ago I told an associate that I could not preach all I was learning from my study of eschatology and my awareness of world political events. He asked why? I replied, "People don't want to hear it. Instead, they would rather go where they can hear feel-good messages that give them 'warm fuzzies'. The problem is that most Christians are even in a sort-of coma, and even they don't want to be awakened to the truth."
The Bible tells us in 2 Timothy 4; the time will come when the people will have itching ears, and will seek out teachers of false messages to tickle their itching ears. We observe this in the clouds of dust around the feet of fickle and immature Christians who chase to and fro to hear comforting messages calling for no response of change or commitment.
The people are fickle. Being fickle is acceptable in a child, but some degree of reasonable behavior is expected of people old enough to make life-changing decisions. Israel was fickle. The blindness of Israel and her leaders disturbed God Himself. He had shown them miracles, favor and blessings, but they refused to believe and be faithful. Their ears were stopped up, and their hearts were hard.
God had spoken to Israel and Judah through His prophets; their response was total disregard. Scripture said that even though God had shown them He would preserve those who would heed His word, still "every man did that which was right in the sight of his own ey ...
