Ruth 3

1. Then Naomi her mother in law said unto her, My daughter, shall I
not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?

Remember when Naomi and Ruth left Moab to go back to Judah,
that we said that Ruth had no guarantees that she would ever be
married to a Jewish man. Remember when we read of the appeal
of Naomi for both Ruth and Orpah to go back to Moab to find rest in
marriage. We saw that when Ruth decided not to go back home,
she for all intents and purposes, closed the door on marriage, or at
least the prospect was slim and none for a Jew wanting to marry a
Moabite. So Ruth's intent, demonstrated by her actions, was to
care for her ailing mother-in-law. Marriage never entered the
picture, until now, and still it was not initiated by Ruth, but by
Naomi. Ruth was content to help Naomi, she sought no one. Naomi
now seeks for Ruth a husband, she wants her daughter to have
security in marriage. There can be many lessons gleaned from this
entire story of Ruth concerning marriage, but I hear very, very little
of this book ever being taught. Security in marriage for example is
almost unheard of today and let me be quick to say that security is
much more than money. Also the mother's role in choosing a
proper husband may need to be examined more closely today in
this age where it seems that most women, as well as men, don't
know how to pick a mate. Oftentimes parents are excluded, and
sometimes for good reasons, but if you have Godly parents, you
ought to give heed to them, not only because they DO know more
than YOU do, but because you owe them the respect they
deserved, having raised you up from the womb. I believe that plenty
of marriages are doomed from the start because the lovers want to
act independent from Godly council from their parents as well as
from their pastor.
